Top Energy Snacks for a Long Distance Driver

Hauling is not an easy job, but somebody's got to do it! Jobs involving return loads can take many hours, if not days. And even with the driving hour limits that are imposed on UK and European haulers, it may be hard to keep your energy and attention at its highest. When the miles seem to tick slowly by and you feel yourself flagging, you may want to reach for a cigarette or another cup of tea or coffee, but why not try eating a small, healthy snack to keep you feeling alert instead? One of the dangers of being in the haulage industry is the tendency to eat things that slow down your system and make you feel groggy and less than healthy. But next time you are scheduled for some lengthy return loads, consider packing a few of these alternatives to perk you up.
Granola bars- We all know them. The sweet, nutty, and sometimes chocolaty snack bars that pack a healthy punch of slow-burning energy; but we're not talking about the sugar loaded Rice Krispie treats, which can give you an instant sugar high, only to be followed by a low. When working on return loads, you need an instant blast of energy from sugar, hopefully fruit based, to wake you up, followed by the sustained level that keeps your attention at its highest. Why not try a granola bar such as Nature Valley, or Jordan's, whose balanced bars provide just the right amount of crunch and sweetness?
Fruit bars- In the past few years, fruit bars have been moved from the 'children's lunch box' area to the mainstream snack bar section. For a hauler doing return loads there are few things better than a Nakd Bar. Nakd bars have nothing in them but fruit, oats, and nuts, all compressed in their raw state to form a bar of condensed fruity goodness.
